Western Montana's Bitterroot Valley, named from the state flower, the Bitterroot Lily, extends south over 100 miles from the city of Missoula, Montana. Starting from the north, US Highway 93 follows the Bitterroot River upstream through the towns of Lolo, Florence, Stevensville, Victor, Hamilton, and finally Sula. Flanked on the west is over one million acres of National forest and Selway Bitterroot Wilderness. To the east is the Sapphire Mountain range with 100's of thousands of National Forest. The Bitterroot Valley is an outdoor recreationalist's dream.

The Bitterroot Valley has a temperate climate, and is sometimes referred to the "banana belt" of Montana. With an average rainfall of just over 13 inches per year, of that, an average snowfall of about 6 inches per year in the valley floor. Residents of the valley enjoy over 270 sunny days per year.
